San Pablo City - The Department of the Interior and Local Government here in San Pablo City headed by its’ Officer-In-Charge, Local Government Operations Officer V, Mrs. Marciana S. Brosas invited all Barangay Officials to cooperate with their “Billion Trees Program” last February 28 in the monthly meeting held by the members of Association of Barangay Chairmen at the ABC Hall.
Brosas said that this is timely because of the alarming causes of global warming of which can be the gravest threat to the survival of mankind. In a memorandum circular 2011-21 sent by DILG Secretary Jesse M. Robredo, it was stated that to be able to combat this peril, the necessity of reducing gas emissions can only be done if every nation will plant billion of trees.
Originally, utilizing the penal labor under the supervision of the Bureau of Corrections and the Bureau of Jail and Management and Penology throughout the country is used as the strategy of producing the 1 billion seedlings. But then Brosas reiterate that to fast track the program and engage active participation of the community with the intention also of establishing a Guinness World Record they are tapping 42,025 barangays nationwide to produce 25,000 seedlings for a synchronized planting on June 25, 2011 as the country celebrates the “Philippines Arbor Day”.
Brosas also encouraged all Barangay officials to pass an appropriate ordinance directing all homeowners and building owners to plant trees in their respective backyards and at the frontage of their houses or building to contribute to the efforts of combating global warming.
Meanwhile, ABC President Gener B. Amante immediately advised all ABC members to support and actively participate in the forthcoming synchronized planting in June. He also commended the efforts of DILG in the struggle against global warming and promises to implement this project as soon as possible. (CIO-San Pablo)
