San Pablo City – A nationwide Community Education Program (CEP) on Migration and Human Trafficking is now being implemented according to Officer-In-Charge, Local Government Operations Officer V, Mrs. Marciana S. Brosas of the Department of the Interior and Local Government - San Pablo City. The said CEP started its implementation last February 13 and will last until October 22, 2011 in 28 provinces and 2 cities in Metro Manila following the theme “Handa ka na ba mag-abroad? Ano ang dapat mong alamin?”
Brosas said in an interview that the CEP is an annual information campaign conducted by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) aiming to seek assistance for the prospective migrants in making informed decisions regarding working or migrating abroad. The topic also includes generating community involvement on migration concerns. She also added that the program sought to increase public awareness on various issues concerning migration, intermarriages and existing government policies and programs directed against illegal recruitment, documentation, fraud and trafficking among others.
All local chief executives are enjoined to extend possible assistance to the teams implementing the CEP, Brosas added. The local chief executive is tasked to gather participants among its local government officials and employees and all those who are actively assisting migrants and their families. The venue for the conduction of the information campaign, transportation assistance in the activity implementation and providing a resource person in informing the public regarding the programs and services given by the LGU for migrants and their families shall also be assisted by the LGU.
